Though much emphasis remains on volume growth, health care is slowly but surely shifting some focus from volume to an emphasis on population health - serving the entire needs of a portion of the market. But what does that mean for market strategy? How do you go about attracting a significant portion of the market so that you can meet their overall healthcare needs?
One way to focus on increasing one’s share of covered lives or the overall market is to have a strong employer strategy. Employer relationships have always been of interest to hospitals and health systems but they are especially significant today. And, the nature of those relationships has shifted, from simple pre-hire physicals and return-to-work exams in years past to today's worksite nurse navigators, full-time primary care clinics and medically based fitness centers. Employers increasingly believe that worksite interventions hold tremendous potential to influence the health of their employees. This is a magnificent opportunity for health providers.
